What’s more, you’ll need to secure the bike at all times to prevent theft.

The $23 membership, which lets you unlock an infinite number of BIXIs without fees and make an unlimited number of trips under 45 minutes, is the most economical and secure option.

When you access the BIXI system with a one-way pass, a pre-authorization of $100 per bike is frozen on your credit card. (If you rent 2 bikes at the same time, the pre-authorization is $200, for 3 bikes, $300 and for 4 bikes, $400).

This is not a charge. It is an amount blocked to guarantee the return of the borrowed bike. The deposit is returned to you within a period that depends entirely on your banking institution.

The approximate period for a pre-authorized deposit on a Canadian credit card to be released is 10 days.
